Architecture (in German) (B. Eng.)

Junge Frau bastelt an Architekturmodell aus HolzNew from winter term 2026/27

‘Thinking architecture further: sustainable. digital. social.’

Architecture is much more than just designing buildings – it is shaping our living spaces. In the German language “Architektur” programme at THI on the Neuburg campus, we combine creative design with technical understanding, social awareness and digital competence.

In keeping with the character of the Neuburg sustainability campus, our teaching focuses on sustainable construction: our approach is to build in a climate-friendly and resource-efficient manner, using materials that are as ecological as possible and keeping aspects of circular construction in mind from the outset. In digital planning using CAD, Building Information Modelling (BIM) and AI-supported tools, we always keep sociological aspects in mind. In the ethics of construction, we always consider the types of use and behaviour of future residents or visitors, for example in public buildings such as schools or office buildings, as well as possible later repurposing due to changes in needs or living conditions. We use state-of-the-art teaching methods to provide practical and interdisciplinary training for future architects who will be able to compete in an international environment.

Our goal: We train architects who take responsibility for people, the environment and society.

You will learn, among other things:

  • Design & building theory
  • Sustainable building construction & sustainable building materials
  • Urban planning & spatial sociology
  • Digital tools in planning
  • and lots of joint project work & interdisciplinary studios

From the 5th semester onwards, we offer individual specialisations:

  • Sociology (people and society)
  • Sustainable construction (climate-friendly construction and much more)

German&English-language Architecture programme (B. Eng.):
You can start your architecture studies in German or English.

In the “Architecture” (as opposed to “Architektur" in German programme), you can start with a Level A1 in German and will need to optimize your German up to Level B2 in parallel during your part-time architectural studies. From the 4th semester onwards (for international students with lower German skills, this is their 5th sem.), international and German-speaking students study together – in an intercultural, practical and networked environment.

Quick Info

Admission and application

In the Architecture (B. Eng., German-language) programme, it is possible to start your studies only in winter semester.

As the programme is not subject to admission restrictions, applications must be submitted exclusively via the PRIMUSS application portal THI. Registration with DOSV/hochschulstart is therefore not necessary.

Application deadlines
Information on the application period, which starts on 2 May, and on the application process can be found on the page ‘Applying for a place on a Bachelor's programme’.

Would you like to study architecture? In addition to your university entrance qualification, you will also need to demonstrate your creative aptitude. To do this, you will go through a two-stage process:

  1. Online application: With a letter of motivation and a digital portfolio (7 pages) containing three of your own pieces of work and a completed assignment.
  2. We will review and evaluate your portfolio. If you pass, you will be admitted to the programme. There is no oral exam.

There is no pre-study internship. The aptitude test takes place once a year.

Start Architecture B. Eng. (German): Winter semester 2026/27

Is there a connection to the English-language degree programme ‘Architecture’?

Starting in the 4th semester, German-speaking and international students enrolled in the primarily English-language Bachelor's programme in Architecture study together! In the higher semesters, modules are mainly taught in German, but some are also taught in English. English-language courses prepare students for a global working environment, while German-language content places greater emphasis on local industry relevance. This model increases the university's appeal to a diverse student body.
