During the set-up phase, the management project has developed into the central control and communication platform within the SAFIR research partnership. Established processes and structures have proved their worth and will be continued and supplemented in the intensification phase. It is divided into partnership, innovation, communication and network management.
SAFIR Management and Goals

The task of the partnership management is the central control and coordination of the various project activities of SAFIR. Innovation management will control the entire innovation process of the network and create synergy potentials to other innovation processes and activities of the university. Communication Management is responsible for expanding internal and external communication while increasing SAFIR's visibility. The management project will focus on network management.
The main focus is on linking SAFIR with the other research activities of the THI and the initiation of funding projects with partners in order to make SAFIR permanent network.
The SAFIR network partnership pursues the following objectives:
- SAFIR provides a sustainable contribution to the realization of Vision Zero
- SAFIR creates the center for vehicle safety 4.0 via competence networking
- SAFIR further develops integral vehicle safety into global vehicle safety
- SAFIR increases the international competitiveness of the participating companies
- SAFIR expands applied road safety research
- SAFIR promotes start-ups in the region and from the university on vehicle safety
- SAFIR supports the development of Ingolstadt into a test field for networked mobility
SAFIR Network Partnership
At the center of the SAFIR network partnership there is THI as a research-intensive HAW with proven expertise in the HRK research focus on vehicle and traffic safety, as well as specialized SMEs and suppliers in the vehicle safety environment. In the intensification phase, the SAFIR innovation partnership continues to focus on close networking between business and science in research and development topics. Starting with the generation of ideas with large companies and specialized SMEs, the process continues with research into basic principles with university and non-university research institutions, through the individual development steps, to series production and ultimately professional disposal.
The research partnership currently comprises 25 partners - in addition to 12 core partners, there are 13 other, so-called associated partners, from science and industry. The networking includes the existing and planned research infrastructure of the CARISSMA research building, such as the test track for autonomous driving (highway section A9; "first mile" Ingolstadt) as well as the OEM vehicle test site. The city and region are to strengthen the international competitiveness of regional companies as a test field for networked mobility. Ingolstadt, as a test area for networked mobility, is to support CARISSMA and strengthen innovations at regional companies and through start-ups.
The city of Ingolstadt is a member of the European Metropolitan Region of Munich (EMM). The EMM is one of the world's leading automotive locations with a network combining Audi, BMW, automotive suppliers, engineering service providers, and research and development institutions with an automotive focus.
As in previous years, partner meetings such as networking events, innovation forums or workshops will be hosted regularly during the intensification phase in order to promote a personal and constant exchange among SAFIR stakeholders.

SAFIR Network Management

The focus in the intensification phase is on network management, for which the foundations were already laid in the start-up phase. Over the past few years, SAFIR has developed intensive application-oriented collaborations with a wide range of partners from industry, science and politics in the field of vehicle safety from occasional collaborations with individual partners.
In particular, the successful development of SAFIR is to be continued through network management and the basis for sustainable continuation created after the intensification phase.
However, the identification and targeted promotion of innovative ideas will also remain core topics within the management project. The area of innovation management will continue to form its own pillar. In the intensification phase, cross-project dovetailing and networking will be expanded in order to utilise existing synergies.
There are plans to intensify co-operation with existing partners on the one hand and to tap into new partners and sources of funding within and outside the university for the network on the other. In particular, it is planned to anchor the SAFIR network in the two IN institutes CARISSMA and IIMO as well as the AN institutes AININ and Fraunhofer in a highly decentralised manner. In order to pool expertise and utilise synergies, the exchange of experience with other strategic university projects such as "Mensch in Bewegung" and, in particular, the Brazil and Latin America network AWARE will be cultivated. In the area of innovation management, close networking is planned with the Centre of Entrepreneurship (CoE) at THI, where start-up projects in particular are initiated and supported as part of the EXIST-Potentials funding line in the "TH-INspire" project.
